I have the best Confession: I am pregnant! It’s been a long journey, but it finally happened. It means however, that my intake of literature has drastically decreased over the past 13 weeks, due to the fact that I now find myself sleeping in those moments that I’m usually reading. I have just recently finished a series called Unearthly by Cynthia Hand.
“Clara Gardner has recently learned that she’s part angel. Having angel blood run through her veins not only makes her smarter, stronger, and faster than humans (a word, she realizes, that no longer applies to her), but it means she has a purpose, something she was put on this earth to do. Figuring out what that is, though, isn’t easy.
Her visions of a raging forest fire and an alluring stranger lead her to a new school in a new town. When she meets Christian, who turns out to be the boy of her dreams (literally), everything seems to fall into place—and out of place at the same time. Because there’s another guy, Tucker, who appeals to Clara’s less angelic side.
As Clara tries to find her way in a world she no longer understands, she encounters unseen dangers and choices she never thought she’d have to make—between honesty and deceit, love and duty, good and evil. When the fire from her vision finally ignites, will Clara be ready to face her destiny?”
It was a fun and exciting read. The Author Cynthia Hand, did a good job with taking me on the journey with Clara. To the point that I’m sitting in my break room at work laughing and giggling and gasping at the story. When the person in the room with me asks what I am reading you know the author has done their job right!
I felt with Clara, her angers and frustrations, and her confused emotions. As she tried to find her purpose. I felt her love and excitement when she thought she was getting it right or maybe didn’t care but was in love anyways.
A forewarning: there is an epic love triangle! And I like to pride myself in always picking the right team, so possible spoiler alert, Clara does not end up with whom I was rooting for *gasp* I was shocked! That’s kinda what made me end up liking the idea. I love when an author can throw me for a loop. I really enjoyed the series it kept me on my toes and combined the romance with just enough suspense. –A.B.
